MY SILENT NIGHT – CHARITY PREVIEW
John Debney
The musical play "My Silent Night" by John Debney and Hannah Friedman tells a modern, unpretentious Christmas story that sensitively conveys the peace message of the song "Silent Night". Alongside the two main characters, a group of young people takes center stage, crossing boundaries with their music and touching hearts. This inspired an initiative by the Salzburger Nachrichten in collaboration with the Salzburg State Theater to present an exclusive preview performance of the musical play, with proceeds benefiting the Salzburg-based charity "Rettet das Kind".
In the play, the American Justin travels to Salzburg, following his childhood love Elisabeth, who directs the youth program of a renowned festival in her hometown. Beyond the usual musical Christmas traditions, they attempt to form a band with young people marginalized by society. This plan unfolds into a turbulent story that culminates just before Christmas.
Rettet das Kind e.V. is a nonprofit dedicated to helping children and young people through specialized training and social-pedagogical care. Since the play’s plot closely aligns with the charity’s real goals, the Salzburger Nachrichten initiative gave the Salzburg State Theater the perfect opportunity to invite a select audience to a preview performance—an open dress rehearsal—offering an exclusive early look at the new production by three-time Emmy winner John Debney right before its festive gala and world premiere.
The ticket prices correspond to those of a regular performance, with all proceeds donated to support the work of "Rettet das Kind".
