Alexandra Liedtke
Principal Stage Director for Music Theatre
Alexandra Liedtke was born in Dortmund and studied theatre, film, and media studies at the universities of Erlangen and Bochum. She has worked at Schauspielhaus Hamburg and Schauspielhaus Bochum, where she directed the “Theater unter Tage” from 2000 to 2003.
She has staged productions at Zurich Schauspielhaus, Vienna Burgtheater, Theater in der Josefstadt, and Schauspielhaus Graz. Her production of Neil LaBute’s “The Shape of Things” at the Salzburg State Theatre was nominated for the Nestroy Theatre Prize in 2011 in the category “Best Production Outside Vienna.” She made her opera directing debut in 2012 with “Der Zauberflöte zweyter Theil. Das Labyrinth” at the Salzburg Festival. Since then, she has worked in both theatre and opera, including Camille Saint-Saëns’ “Samson et Dalila” at the Vienna State Opera in 2018. She has frequently directed in Kiel; during the 2022/2023 season she staged Hans Fallada’s “Little Man, What Now?”.
At the Salzburg State Theatre, her productions have included “Intrigue and Love,” “The King of the Alps and the Misanthrope,” “Don Carlos,” “The Tales of Hoffmann,” “Hamlet,” “La Gazzetta,” “Heldenplatz,” “Ariadne auf Naxos,” and “The Cherry Orchard.” In the 2024/2025 season, she directed Bertolt Brecht’s “The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui” in the drama division.
Since the current season, she has taken on the position of Principal Stage Director for Music Theatre at the Salzburg State Theatre and is responsible for the productions of “Don Giovanni” and “Eugene Onegin.”
