Georg Clementi
Drama
Georg Clementi was born in Bolzano on the day of the moon landing. He began his career as a singer-songwriter at a very young age and today also works as an actor and director in Salzburg.
His songs have received numerous awards. In 2012, he won both the Audience Award and the First Jury Prize at the “Troubadour” competition in Stuttgart, as well as Silver at the Potsdam Chanson Festival. His songs have repeatedly appeared on the German Song Chart (Deutsche Liederbestenliste), and radio host Mirjam Jessa named his album “Zeitlieder” the “Discovery of the Year” on Ö1. At the Hoyerswerda Song Festival, he immediately won the First Audience Prize and the Second Jury Prize, the “Hoyschrecke”. Gerd Heger, known as the “Monsieur Chanson” of Saarländischer Rundfunk, commented on Georg Clementi: “There are currently few works in German chanson that are better.”
Together with Harald Martenstein, star columnist of ZEIT Magazin, he tours with the programme “Martenstein liest & Clementi singt”. With guitarist Ossy Pardeller, he founded the singer-songwriter duo “Die Clempanei”, presenting songs with thoughtful lyrics and virtuosic guitar artistry (available at www.clempanei.at). Together with live painter Michael Ferner, the two present the philosophical cabaret programme “Von Sokrates bis Putin in 90 Minuten”.
As an actor, Georg Clementi has been associated with the Salzburg State Theatre since 1993, appearing in numerous roles, including “Skiverliebt – Zwei Brettln, die die Welt bedeuten”, “Back and Forth”, “The Gates of Gaza”, and “Ballhaus”. He also works as a director and has been the Artistic Director of the Salzburg Street Theatre since 2016.
