Friedemann Vogel

Friedemann Vogel was born in Stuttgart and received his training at the Princess Grace Academy in Monte Carlo as a scholarship student of Princess Antoinette of Monaco. At an early stage, he won major international competitions, including the Prix de Lausanne, as well as gold medals at the Prix de Luxembourg and other prestigious competitions in Europe and the United States.
In 1998, he joined the Stuttgart Ballet and was promoted to Principal Dancer in 2002. In the same year, he won the Erik Bruhn Prize in Toronto. Vogel was named “Dancer of the Year” twice by TANZ magazine (2010, 2019) and received the award for “Best Male Dancer” from Danza&Danza in 2011.
His extensive repertoire ranges from leading roles in classical and neoclassical ballet to works by renowned choreographers such as John Cranko, George Balanchine, William Forsythe, and Wayne McGregor. As an internationally sought-after guest artist, he has performed with leading companies worldwide, including the Mariinsky Ballet, Bolshoi Ballet, Teatro alla Scala, and English National Ballet, as well as numerous other renowned ensembles across Europe, Asia, and the Americas.
In 2015, he was awarded the title “Kammertänzer,” Germany’s highest honor for dancers, followed by the German Dance Prize in 2020. In 2021, as ambassador for International Dance Day, he authored the official message for UNESCO. Alongside his performing career, he is also active in choreography and teaching, including at the University of Tübingen.
On the occasion of his 25th stage anniversary with the Stuttgart Ballet, he was honored with the John Cranko Prize in 2024 and made his feature film debut in Cranko the same year. In 2026, Friedemann Vogel was awarded the Order of Merit of the State of Baden-Württemberg for his artistic achievements and his social commitment as an international ambassador of dance.
