During her studies in Regensburg, she sang in the extra chorus of the Regensburg City Theatre. In Ludwigsburg, she founded and directed the Film Academy Choir and later worked as a freelance artist.
She has worked across film, television, advertising, games, virtual reality installations, and theatre, as well as on stage as a conductor, singer, pianist, guitarist, music producer, and studio musician. As an orchestrator and arranger, she collaborated with various orchestras and composers, including the Bayerische Filmfoniker, Konstantin Wecker, Tom Tykwer, and German Film Music Award winner Nikki Reiser. In the studio, she has worked with artists such as "Die Fantastischen Vier", Gil Ofarim, Oedo Kuipers, Dorothea Baumann, and Gernot and Reinwald Kranner.
As a singer-songwriter, she performs her own live program featuring German and Bavarian pop songs. Her first TV appearance was in the "Boarische Late Night Show" (2017), where she improvised a spontaneous live composition to a theatre scene.
She spent three years as a vocal soloist and musical director of the Munich musical company Singphonie, conducted her own film music recordings in Germany and abroad, and premiered contemporary works such as "Requiem – Ein Tango" (2016) and Sinfonia Fantasia (2017) by Michaela Dietl in Munich. Her symphonic rock fantasy musical “Die Königin der Schatten” (The Queen of Shadows) is published by LITAG Verlag. Schweiger is also an active member of several organizations supporting a vibrant music scene, including musica femina München e.V. and the German Musical Academy.
In 2023, she and the youth choir team of the Salzburg State Theatre received the Jury’s Honorary Award at the German Musical Theatre Prize for their production of her musical “The Flying Classroom”.
During the 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons, Katrin Schweiger served as composer-in-residence at the Salzburg State Theatre.
