Roman Kanonik

Roman Kanonik was born in 1982 in Kulunda, Siberia, and moved with his family to Lower Saxony in 1993. In 2003, he began his acting studies at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK), graduating with distinction in 2007. His first engagement was at the Deutsches Theater Berlin, where he played the role of Thisbe in Jürgen Gosch’s production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”. In November 2007, he received his first permanent engagement at the Berliner Ensemble, where he worked with directors such as Thomas Langhoff, Peter Stein, Manfred Karge, Katharina Thalbach, Claus Peymann and Enrico Lübbe, appearing in productions including “The Broken Jug”, “The Lower Depths”, “Danton’s Death”, “Romeo and Juliet”, “King Richard III”, and “Tales from the Vienna Woods”.

From 2012 onward, Roman Kanonik worked as a freelance actor in various film and television productions as well as at several theatres, including the Berliner Ensemble, Vereinigte Bühnen Bozen, and Monbijou-Theater Berlin (formerly Hexenkessel).

Since the 2016/17 season, Roman Kanonik has been a permanent ensemble member at Schauspiel Leipzig. With the production “The Gates of Gaza”, he is appearing for the first time as a guest at the Salzburg State Theatre.
