The Slovenian prima ballerina Alenka Ribič Laufer was born in Maribor and began her career at the age of 17 as a soloist at the Slovenian National Theatre. After one season at the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb, she returned to Maribor, where she danced as principal soloist in the great classical roles – including “Swan Lake”, “The Sleeping Beauty”, “Don Quixote”, “La Bayadère”, “Romeo and Juliet”, “The Nutcracker”, and “Coppélia.” She was also widely acclaimed for her performances in neoclassical and contemporary repertoire.

Guest performances and gala appearances took her to numerous European countries. Following an injury in 2013, she turned to teaching and coaching. Since then, she has worked as ballet mistress and assistant at the Slovenian National Theatre Maribor and teaches regularly in Ljubljana and Italy. For her artistic achievements, she was awarded the Glazer Prize (2001) and the prestigious Prešeren Prize (2004).
