Born in Bad Soden-Salmünster in Hesse, Andreas Fladvad-Geier initially studied theology and philosophy as part of the Mainz seminary programme, but soon found his calling in the theatre. He expanded his studies to include theatre studies and art history in Vienna before moving to the Institute of Theatre Studies in Cologne. During his studies, he worked as an assistant at Staatstheater Wiesbaden and spent an extended period working in the dramaturgy department of Oper Frankfurt.

In the 1994/95 season, Prof. Kurt Horres brought him to Deutsche Oper am Rhein, where he worked as an assistant director and stage manager. From 1997 to 2002, he held the same position at Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe. There, he directed numerous solo evenings and, in autumn 2000, presented his first opera production, G. Donizetti’s "Viva la Mamma".

As a freelance director, he worked in Aachen, Augsburg, at Nationaltheater Mannheim and Theater Kiel, among others. At Opera Ontario in Hamilton, Canada, he directed Mozart’s "Le nozze di Figaro" and Delibes’ "Lakmé". Further opera productions included Korngold’s "Die tote Stadt" and Verdi’s "Rigoletto" (2007) at the National Theatre in Brno.

From 2002 to 2008, he was a permanent resident director at the Altes Schauspielhaus/Komödie im Marquardt in Stuttgart. There, he directed numerous musicals and plays, as well as revues he had written himself.

From December 2008, he served as Head of Ballet and Opera at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden. In this role, he worked continuously with many of the leading artists of his time and, in close collaboration with Sir Simon Rattle, shaped the casting of the opera festivals through 2018.

As Head of Ballet, he brought leading ballet companies to Baden-Baden. World premieres were created by Mauro Bigonzetti, Hans van Manen, Benoit-Swan Pouffer and Eric Gauthier. For choreographer Peter Breuer, he wrote the libretto for a ballet about the myth of "Marilyn Monroe" (2009), a new version of Prokofiev’s ballet "Romeo and Juliet" (2010), and the ballet "Siegfried" (2011) for Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe.

From 2018 to 2021, Andreas Fladvad-Geier was Head of the Concert Department of the International Mozarteum Foundation Salzburg and, in this capacity, also served as Artistic Director of the DIALOGE Festival. Highlights of his work there included the first staged performance of Mozart’s opera "La clemenza di Tito" in Havana, which was subsequently presented as a guest performance at Lincoln Center in Washington. More than 30 world premieres were presented as part of DIALOGE, including the world premiere of the ballet production "Framework" by Klever Dance Company, as well as numerous Austrian premieres, with a particular focus on supporting young composers.

Since May 2021, he has been Director of Artistic Operations at the Salzburg State Theatre
