Carlo Massari

Director / Choreographer

Carlo Massari is a transdisciplinary creator, choreographer, and performer. His eclectic artistic and professional journey spans from drama to musical theatre, from dance to physical theatre. Known for his ongoing drive to explore new languages, he delves into the hybridization and fusion of different performative disciplines, defining a clear and recognizable artistic identity through an amphibious form of expression. He is the founder and artistic director of C&C Company, a research-based company specializing in physical theatre and dance theatre, with which he has created numerous award-winning productions since 2011.

Since 2025, he has also been the co-founder of the new dance production association SPaCCa, recognized by the Italian Ministry of Culture and the Emilia-Romagna Region.

As a choreographer, he has received commissions from prestigious institutions such as: Konzert Theater Bern, Ravenna Festival, Accademia Filarmonica Romana, Bologna Festival, Ferrara Musica, Cie. Balletto Teatro di Torino, Cie. Opus Ballet, MM Company, further consolidating his distinctive creative voice. In the field of opera, he has contributed as a choreographer and movement dramaturg for theatres including Salzburg Landestheater, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Teatro Regio di Parma, and Opéra de Monte-Carlo, collaborating with directors such as Davide Livermore, Damiano Michieletto, Andrea Bernard, and Silvia Paoli.

In 2019, in collaboration with Leggere Strutture Art Factory, he founded ANFIBIA, an international intensive multidisciplinary training project for contemporary performers and creators. Since the same year, he has also curated the artistic direction of Danzare il Tramonto, an eco-sustainable dance festival set in rural landscapes.

In 2024, he embarked on a new shared adventure in opera direction together with Chiara Osella, founding the COCM Design Studio. The duo’s first creation - The Voyage by Philip Glass - inaugurated the Klaipėda State Music Theatre. Their next production "Giulio Cesare" will premiere in 2026 at the Salzburg State Theatre.
