Andreas Gergen
Director
Andreas Gergen has been closely associated with the Salzburg Landestheater for many years and served as Director of Opera from 2011 to 2017. From 2011 to 2014, he was Chairman of the Board of the German National Singing Competition in Berlin.
Among his most important directing credits are "I am from Austria", "Don Camillo & Peppone", and "Der Besuch der alten Dame" for Vereinigte Bühnen Wien, as well as "Carmen" and "Meine Stille Nacht" at the Felsenreitschule Salzburg, and the operetta "Viktoria und ihr Husar" for the Mörbisch Lake Festival (awarded the 2016 Operetta Prize by BR-Klassik).
He has directed over 100 operas, operettas, and musicals, including "The Magic Flute", "Hansel and Gretel", "La Belle Hélène", "Madama Butterfly", "La Traviata", and "La Bohème" (Haus für Mozart, Salzburg); "The Count of Monte Cristo" (world premiere, Theater St. Gallen); "Jekyll & Hyde", "West Side Story", "Kiss Me, Kate", "Frau Luna", "Die Fledermaus", "The Sound of Music", "Greek", "La Cage aux Folles", "Jonny spielt auf", "Fidelio", "Il mondo della luna", "Spamalot", "Much Ado About Nothing", "Dr. Dolittle" (Salzburg Landestheater); "Dällebach Kari" (world premiere); "Die Fledermaus" (Opéra de Nice); "Hairspray" (Munich, Merzig, Tecklenburg); "Sunset Boulevard", "Cats", "Rebecca", the German-language premieres of "The Addams Family – The Musical" (Musik & Theater Saar) and "Shrek – The Musical", as well as the world premiere of the neighborhood musical "Zzaun!" at the Staatsoperette Dresden.
He served as Managing Director and Artistic Director of the Schlosspark Theater Berlin, where he directed the European premiere of the Broadway hit "Urinetown – The Musical", the Kollo operetta "Wie einst im Mai", and "Die Drei von der Tankstelle" by Werner Richard Heymann.
He later moved to Stage Entertainment in Hamburg as Artistic Project Manager, contributing to the development of musicals such as "Der Schuh des Manitu" and "Ich war noch niemals in New York".
For Vereinigte Bühnen Wien, he directed the widely acclaimed semi-staged concerts of "The Phantom of the Opera" and "Love Never Dies".
At the Dortmund Westfalenhalle he directed "Luther – The Project of 1000 Voices" by Michael Kunze and Dieter Falk, and in November 2018 he staged "Cinderella" at the Prinzregententheater in Munich.
Under his direction, the sensational success "Rock me Amadeus" premiered at the Ronacher in Vienna in 2023.
For the Mozart Week 2024, he directed Peter Shaffer’s "Amadeus" in cooperation with the Salzburg Landestheater.
For the 2025 Ski World Championships, he staged the commissioned musical "Skiverliebt – Zwei Brettln, die die Welt bedeuten" at the Salzburg Landestheater.
Since the 2025/2026 season, Andreas Gergen has been Artistic Director of Bühne Baden near Vienna.
