Chor des Salzburger Landestheaters

The opera chorus of the Salzburg State Theatre, alongside the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, forms one of the essential pillars of the opera ensemble. It consists of 24 classically trained singers, supported when needed by a flexible extra chorus from the Salzburg region. The chorus members represent thirteen different nationalities. They perform in the Salzburg State Theatre’s productions in varying sizes – from large choral numbers to solo parts.

Beyond its high musical quality, the opera chorus is distinguished by its versatility, both in terms of musical styles and eras as well as in its diverse scenic and choreographic involvement in the theatre’s opera, operetta, and musical productions. Major choral operas such as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Idomeneo,” Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin,” Georges Bizet’s “Carmen,” as well as the use of the male chorus in Alban Berg’s “Wozzeck” or Max Brand’s “Stormy Interlude” stand out as highlights in the ensemble’s repertoire.

At the beginning of 2022, Carl Philipp Fromherz assumed the leadership of the opera chorus. Since the 2024/2025 season, Mario el Fakih Hernández has been the chorus master.
