Welsh pianist and conductor Iwan Davies studied at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the National Opera Studio in London.
This season’s engagements include conducting the world premiere of Gareth Glyn’s opera “Wythnos yng Nghymru Fydd” for Opra Cymru, a variety of productions at the Salzburger Landestheater and a recital with Lithuanian mezzo-soprano Justina Gringytė.
As a répétiteur, Iwan has worked on productions of Leoncavallo’s “Zazá”, “Kát’a Kabanová” (Opera Holland Park), Wolf-Ferrari’s “Le donne curiose”, Martinů’s “Alexandre Bis” (GSMD), “Così fan tutte” (Opera Loki, Bury Court Opera), “Dido and Aeneas”, “Carmen”, “Figaro’s Wedding”, “The Magic Flute” (Opera Cocktail), “Die Fledermaus”, “La traviata” (Focus Opera), “Chicago”, “The Sound of Music” (Curve Theatre, Leicester), as well as a variety of opera scenes for Clonter Opera, GSMD, and NOS in collaboration with Opera North, Scottish Opera and Welsh National Opera.
At the Salzburger Landestheater in 2018/2019 Iwan Davies will conduct performances of “Wiener Blut“ (Johann Strauß (Sohn)), Rossini’s “La gazetta“ and Philip Glass’ “The Trial“.
