Jana Kurucová

The Slovak mezzo-soprano Jana Kurucová began her career in the young artists program of the Bavarian State Opera in Munich before joining the ensemble in Heidelberg, where she made her debut as Rosina („Il Barbiere di Siviglia“) and Sesto („La clemenza di Tito“). From 2009 to 2018, she was a member of the ensemble at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, where she significantly expanded her repertoire, subsequently she joined the Hamburg State Opera ensemble until the 2024/2025 season.
As a guest artist, she has performed many times at the Semperoper Dresden, as well as at renowned festivals and in numerous international cities, from Sevilla to Madrid, from Oslo to Tokyo. In recent seasons, she has made successful debuts at the Zurich Opera, Theater an der Wien, and the Opéra Royal de Wallonie in Liège.
Her widespread repertoire includes Mozart roles such as Dorabella („Così fan tutte“) and Donna Elvira („Don Giovanni“), bel canto roles such as Romeo („I Capuleti ed i Montecchi“), Elisabetta („Maria Stuarda“) Giovanna Seymor („Anna Bolena“), Verdi roles such as Maddalena („Rigoletto“) and Preziosilla („La forza del destino“). Furthermore, Carmen, Rosina, Hänsel, the Foreign Princess („Rusalka“), Orlofsky („Die Fledermaus“), Nicklausse/Muse („Les Contes d’Hoffmann“), the Fox („The Cunning little Vixen), Varvara („Kat’a Kabanova“). Alongside opera, she maintains an extensive concert repertoire ranging from Berg to Mahler.
In the 2025/2026 season, a row of several important debuts, are on schedule, including the Composer („Ariadne auf Naxos“) in Prague, the mezzo-soprano soloist part in „Not the Messiah“ (Adaption of Monty Pythons „The Life of Brian“ at the Salzburg State Theatre, and Krudeta in „The Excursions of Mr.Broucek“ at the Bregenz Festival. She will also return to the Theater an der Wien and to Prague.
