The South African actress developed a passion for theatre at an early age. Her first memorable role was Tallulah in “Bugsy Malone”, which she played at the age of nine. From that moment on, it was clear that her career path was destined for the stage.
She successfully completed a Bachelor’s degree in Theatre Studies and German at the University of Natal. Since her professional debut as the naïve Cécile de Volanges in Christopher Hampton’s “Dangerous Liaisons”, she has portrayed a wide range of characters in musicals, plays, television series and films.
For her performances as Cathrine in David Mamet’s “Boston Marriage”, Carol in David Mamet’s “Oleanna”, Prince Charming in Steve Stead’s “Cinderella”, Sister James in John Patrick Shanley’s “Doubt”, Vanda in David Ives’ “Venus in Fur” and Adelaide in “Guys and Dolls”, she has received numerous theatre awards. She has also received awards for directing and her work as a playwright.
In 2010, Janna Ramos-Violante founded her own theatre company, “Thinskin”, for which she produced, wrote and directed a number of plays. Her productions “My Soldier”, “Callum’s Will” and “Phobic” toured nationally throughout South Africa and received awards at festivals across the country.
She has been living in Salzburg since 2017. In 2019, she made her first appearance at the Salzburg Landestheater as Count de Guiche in “Cyrano de Bergerac”.
