Lukasz Konieczny

Opera

The bass Lukasz Konieczny was born in Łódź, Poland, and studied voice at the Academy of Music in Wrocław. He complemented his training through masterclasses with renowned singers and teachers such as Prof. Christian Elsner, Deborah Polaski, Franz Grundheber, Linda Watson, and David Syrus, as well as through acting courses at the International Film School in Cologne.

From 2011 to 2019, he was a permanent member of the ensemble at Deutsche Oper am Rhein.
His repertoire includes, among others, the Mozart roles Bartolo ("Le nozze di Figaro"), Masetto ("Don Giovanni"), as well as Zuniga (Bizet’s "Carmen"), Crespel/Luther (Offenbach’s "Les Contes d’Hoffmann"), Rocco (Beethoven’s "Fidelio"), Baron Douphol (Verdi’s "La traviata"), Sparafucile (Verdi’s "Rigoletto"), Banco (Verdi’s "Macbeth"), Bonzo (Puccini’s "Madama Butterfly"), Fafner (Wagner’s "Das Rheingold" and "Siegfried"), Hunding (Wagner’s "Die Walküre"), Truffaldin (Strauss’ "Ariadne auf Naxos"), and Dr. Behrens in the world premiere of Paweł Mykietyn’s "The Magic Mountain" at the Malta Festival in Poznań and the Sacrum Profanum Festival in Kraków. His concert repertoire also encompasses the major bass parts of the oratorio and symphonic literature.

Guest appearances have taken him to the Händel Festival in Halle as Polifemo ("Acis and Galatea"), to the Mainfranken Theater Würzburg as Rocco, to Hamburg State Opera as Sparafucile, and to the Munich Opera Festival as Douphol. At Dresden’s Semperoper he appeared in the 2017/18 season as Crespel/Luther and as Lodovico in Verdi’s "Otello". He also sang the King in Verdi’s "Aida" at Dubai Opera together with the Polish National Opera. In 2019/20 he returned to the Bavarian State Opera as Reinmar von Zweter in Wagner’s "Tannhäuser" and performed Sparafucile in Verdi’s "Rigoletto" at the Polish National Opera. In 2021/22 he appeared again at the Halle Händel Festival as Fabbricio in Handel’s pasticcio "Caio Fabbricio".

Konieczny has also participated in numerous CD recordings, including Wagner’s "Der Ring des Nibelungen" (Fafner, Hunding) with the Duisburg Philharmonic under Axel Kober, and the rarely performed oratorio "The Return of the Prodigal Son" by Felix Nowowiejski (in the role of the Father). The latter was nominated for the Polish Fryderyk Award in 2022.

Most recently, Lukasz Konieczny has appeared as Rocco in Beethoven’s "Fidelio" at the Baltic Opera in Gdańsk, as Sarastro in Mozart’s "Die Zauberflöte" at the Festival of the German Language in Bad Lauchstädt, as Colline in Puccini’s "La bohème" at the Polish National Opera, and as Fafner in Wagner’s "Siegfried" at Deutsche Oper am Rhein, as well as in "Das Rheingold" and "Siegfried" at the Wagner Days in Müpa Budapest under Ádám Fischer. He also performed in the premiere of "Das Rheingold" at Singapore’s Esplanade Concert Hall, appeared as Betto di Signa in the premiere of "Gianni Schicchi" at the National Theatre Weimar, in a staged version of Schubert’s "Winterreise" at the Into the Open Festival in Berlin and at the Baltic Opera Festival, as the Father in the world premiere of Zygmunt Krauze’s "The Wedding" at Poznań Opera, and in "Salome" at Teatro Massimo in Palermo.
