Maria Leitgab studied musicology and linguistics with a minor in digital humanities in Graz and Bologna. In 2025, she completed her Master’s degree in dramaturgy at the Bavarian Theatre Academy August Everding in Munich and at the Zurich University of the Arts. During her studies, she conceived and supervised numerous projects in both spoken and music theatre. Since 2022, she has been working as a freelance dramaturg, collaborating within the independent theatre scene in Graz and as guest dramaturg at the Residenztheater Munich, Stadttheater Ingolstadt, as part of the steirischer herbst festival at Theater am Lend, and most recently at the Salzburg Festival. These projects have connected her with directors including Jakob Altmayer, Daniela Kranz, Fabiola Kuonen, Philipp Moschitz, Elli Neubert, Katja Wachter, Christian Winkler, Carolin Wirth, and Anja M. Wohlfahrt.

She also works with Dramaforum Graz, serving among other roles as production manager of the Dramatiker|innenfestival Graz, in the organisation and coordination of the Retzhofer Drama Prize and the support programme FORUM Text, and as a board member of Theater am Lend.

Alongside her dramaturgical work, she frequently performs on stage, whether as a choir director at the Residenztheater Munich, as a performer in the independent scene, or in choir concerts and moderations. Untersberg marks her first collaboration with the Salzburg State Theatre.
