Matthias Hermann, born in Radolfzell on Lake Constance, became a member of the independent theatre group “Trash Theater Köln” while still studying acting in Cologne. This was followed by guest performances at Schauspiel Bonn and at the Prater of the Berliner Volksbühne.

From 2001 to 2010, he was a permanent ensemble member at the Landesbühne Esslingen and the Jungen Ensemble Stuttgart, and also appeared regularly at the Schauspielbühnen Stuttgart. In 2008, he received the Audience Award for Best Actor for his performances in the productions “Buddenbrooks” and “Jedermann”.

In 2010, Matthias Hermann moved to northern Germany to join Theater Lübeck. There, he appeared in more than 40 productions, including leading roles such as “Caligula”, “Oedipus” and “Tartuffe”, as well as Peter Handke’s “Still Storm” (“Immer noch Sturm”), in which he played “I”, and Elfriede Jelinek’s “Winterreise”.

Since the 2020/2021 season, Matthias Hermann has been a member of the ensemble at the Salzburg State Theatre. He has appeared in numerous productions there, including “The Robbers”, “Lehman Brothers”, “The Oresteia”, “The Wolf Must Go!”, “The Cherry Orchard” and “Adam’s Apples”.
