The Brazilian-American mezzo-soprano Melissa Zgouridi opens the 2025/26 season with her highly acclaimed debut as Brangäne in Wagner’s "Tristan und Isolde" at the Stadttheater Klagenfurt. In spring 2026, Melissa returns to the Metropolitan Opera, where she will cover Isabel Leonard in the title role of Frida Kahlo in Gabriela Lena Frank’s "El Último Sueño de Frida y Diego". In summer 2026, she makes her debut at the Bregenz Festival as Annina in Giuseppe Verdi’s "La Traviata" on the Seebühne in a new production by Damiano Michieletto.
Her recent engagements include Erda in Richard Wagner’s "Das Rheingold" and "Siegfried" —among others in a complete Ring cycle directed by Peter Konwitschny at Theater Dortmund, as well as at the Saarländisches Staatstheater and the Opéra Royal du Château de Versailles—the title role in Georges Bizet’s Carmen at Theater Hagen, the Third Witch in Pascal Dusapin’s "Macbeth Underworld" at the Opéra Comique in Paris, Prince Orlofsky in "Die Fledermaus" at Stadttheater Klagenfurt, and Suzuki (cover) in "Madama Butterfly" at the Metropolitan Opera.
From 2021 to 2023, Melissa Zgouridi was a member of the ensemble at the Saarländisches Staatstheater, where she appeared, among other roles, as Carmen, Erda, Floßhilde ("Das Rheingold"), and Ruggiero in George Frideric Handel’s "Alcina".
She earned her Master’s degree in Lied and Oratorio with distinction from the University Mozarteum Salzburg and her Bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance from the Eastman School of Music (USA). Melissa Zgouridi is a freelance artist and lives in Salzburg.
