Monika Ballwein had her first band at the age of 14. She studied Jazz Vocals (IGP) at the Franz Schubert Conservatory and completed further studies in Copenhagen at the CVI – becoming the first authorized teacher of CVT (Complete Vocal Technique) in Austria. In 2004 she founded her vocal academy, and in 2006 her vocal book “Move your Voice” was published.
In addition to her successful singles, shows, and music projects such as “Ballwein celebrates the Beatles,” “Insieme,” and “Live Spirits,” she is also a sought-after artist who has performed with major orchestras and artists including the RSO, Bruckner Orchestra, the Salzburg Philharmonic, with Hans Zimmer, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonic of Györ, Nina Hagen, Rainhard Fendrich, Al Jarreau, Chaka Khan, Marianne Faithfull, Udo Jürgens, Count Basic, and many others.
As a studio singer, she has contributed to around 400 CD productions. In addition, Ballwein has become a permanent fixture in Austrian television. Since the first season, she has been a singer on the ORF show “Dancing Stars.” As a vocal coach and juror for major TV productions such as “Starmania,” “Helden von Morgen,” “Die große Chance,” “Die große Chance der Chöre,” “Popstars,” “Herz von Österreich,” and as a coach for musicals, Monika Ballwein has made a name for herself both nationally and internationally.
As a station voice, she now lends her voice to more than 20 radio stations in Austria and Germany. Ballwein has represented Austria at the Eurovision Song Contest five times—four times on stage herself, and in 2014 as coach and long-time mentor/supporter of Conchita Wurst’s victory, as well as in 2025 also being partly responsible for our winner JJ.
Monika Ballwein is one of Austria’s most versatile singers and was awarded the Golden Badge of Honor for Services to the Province of Lower Austria and the Lower Austrian Culture Prize in 2022.
