Regisseur

Murat Dikenci, born in Hanover, studied Applied Cultural Studies in Lüneburg. Since 2007 he has worked as an author, director, dramaturg, curator and actor on national and international projects.

His productions – including “Sesperado – Revolution of Color” (Ballhaus Naunynstraße, 2016), “YAHYA HASSAN” (Schauspiel Hannover, 2022) and “Die Gerächten” (Schauspiel Dortmund, 2023) – combine literary material with a politically poetic aesthetic. With his self-written play “Die Gerächten”, he was invited to the Radikal jung festival in 2024.

From 2021 to 2023, Murat Dikenci served as Artistic Director and Curator of “Universen” as well as Artistic Mediator at Schauspiel Hannover, where he established a “solidarity-based stage for the diverse urban community”.

Since the 2023/24 season, he has been Artistic Director of STUDIO Я at the Maxim Gorki Theatre, where he dramaturgically mentors young directing voices and curates initiatives aimed at radically rejuvenating theatre audiences. Most recently, he directed Fatma Aydemir’s debut novel “Ellbogen” (2024), Etel Adnan’s “To Be In A Time of War” (2025), and “The Legend of Paul and Paula” (2025) at the Maxim Gorki Theatre.

“The Stranger” marks his first directing work at the Salzburg State Theatre.
