Claus Tröger
Director
Claus Tröger, born in Hallein, has worked as a freelance director and lecturer since 1978. From 1984 to 1999, he served as artistic director of the Kleines Theater in Salzburg, where he also conducted seminars on contemporary drama and directed productions throughout the German-speaking world. He is a founding member of the European Theatre Initiative and was a member of the Salzburg Regional Cultural Advisory Board from 1993 to 1996. During his tenure at the Kleines Theater, he additionally took on the artistic directorship of Salzburg’s Theater Metropolis in 1995.
Since 1999, he has increasingly returned to directing, working primarily in Austria, Germany, and Italy. He also holds a teaching position at the EU Theatre School in Bruneck (South Tyrol). Since October 2006, Claus Tröger has published several plays, including the youth theatre works "Who’s Afraid of Oliver Twist" and "Game of Chance", as well as the chamber play "Glass House". At the Salzburg State Theatre, he was responsible for the student project "We Found a State". His directing work further includes Ronald Harwood’s "Collaboration", Thomas Bernhard’s "Before Retirement", "Romy’s Pool", the "Dramolettes", and the citizens’ theatre project "Emigration Day", for which he also developed the text adaptation.
