Vivan Bhatti

Vivan Bhatti, born in 1975 in Bielefeld, studied music at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich and the Robert Schumann University in Düsseldorf. He works as a freelance composer, guitarist, and theatre musician. Together with his brother Ketan Bhatti, he composes music for theatre, film, and television. Their first opera, “Discount Diaspora,” with a libretto by Feridun Zaimoglu and Günter Senkel, premiered in 2011 at the Neuköllner Oper in Berlin.
The project “Red Bull Flying Bach,” for which the brothers contributed the music, received the 2010 ECHO Klassik Special Award. As both an electric and classical guitarist, Vivan Bhatti has performed in a wide range of projects, bands, and ensembles, spanning classical, rock, hip-hop, and contemporary music, with tours in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
Bhatti has collaborated with director Nuran David Calis for many years, composing for numerous stage productions and films, including “Romeo and Juliet” (Maxim Gorki Theater, Berlin), “Homestories” (Schauspiel Essen), “Danton’s Death” (Staatstheater Stuttgart), “The Robbers” and “Macbeth” (Volkstheater Vienna). Together with Ketan Bhatti, he also composed the scores for recent film adaptations of Wedekind’s “Spring Awakening” and Büchner’s “Woyzeck” (ZDF/ARTE/3Sat).
