Yevheniy Kapitula

Opera

Ukrainian baritone Yevheniy Kapitula studied recorder, singing, conducting, composition, and counterpoint at the Lviv National Music Academy. He has received numerous prizes, awards, and scholarships, including the Gaude Polonia scholarship from the Polish Ministry of Culture and a grant for the International Opera Workshop in Sigriswil (Switzerland). His engagements have taken him to Poland, France, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. In addition to opera, Kapitula is also deeply devoted to concert repertoire.

In the 2014/15 season he was a scholarship holder at the Vienna State Opera, where he performed roles such as Fiorello in Rossini’s "Il barbiere di Siviglia," Marullo in Verdi’s "Rigoletto," and Hans in Lortzing’s "Undine." At Neue Oper Wien he appeared in 2016/17 as Meton in Krenek’s "Pallas Athene weint." Since 2016 he has been a regular guest at the Salzburg State Theatre, singing roles such as Hermann in Offenbach’s "Les Contes d’Hoffmann," Monsieur de Brétigny in Massenet’s "Manon," Monsù Traversen in Rossini’s "La gazzetta," the Theater Director in Donizetti’s "Le convenienze ed inconvenienze teatrali" ("Viva la Diva"), the Head Waiter in the world premiere of Alma Deutscher’s "Des Kaisers neue Walzer," and Robert in Tchaikovsky’s "Iolanta."

In the 2023/24 season he appeared as Figaro in Rossini’s "Il barbiere di Siviglia" at Theater Hagen. In 2024 he made his Salzburg Festival debut as Wilhelm in Offenbach’s "Les Contes d’Hoffmann." In the 2024/25 season at the Salzburg State Theatre, he performed roles including Prince Ottokar in Weber’s "Der Freischütz," Don Alvaro in Rossini’s "Il viaggio a Reims," and Peter, the broom-maker, in Humperdinck’s "Hänsel und Gretel."

As a concert singer, he recently made his debut in the title role of Mendelssohn’s "Elijah" in Mainz and Darmstadt in 2022 with Ensemble Chordial Mainz and the Heidelberg Kantatenorchester.
