Yvonne Schäfer
Stage and costume design
Born in Munich, Yvonne Schäfer studied Art History and Eastern European History at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU Munich) and worked at the Munich Residenztheater and the Bavarian State Ballet. In 2023, she completed her diploma studies in Stage and Costume Design, Film, and Exhibition Architecture at the University of Mozarteum Salzburg.
As a freelance stage and costume designer as well as illustrator, she has collaborated with institutions including Staatstheater Nürnberg, Schauspielhaus Kiel, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Landestheater Tübingen, Hamburger Kammerspiele, ARGEkultur Salzburg, Toihaus Theater Salzburg, and Theater Altenburg-Gera.
The openness of her artistic approach is reflected in the diversity of her work. Her practice ranges from stage and costume design for theatre, dance, performance, and opera to interactive spatial installations, analogue and digital illustration and drawing, object art, and film projects.
In her works, Schäfer creates fragments of worlds, situations, and environments that, despite their rich level of detail, retain an underlying sense of mystery. This invites audiences to engage in discovery, personal interpretation, and appropriation. A central aspect of her artistic practice is the development of innovative audience perspectives, with a particular focus on immediacy of experience and interactive elements.
In recent years, her projects have increasingly explored digital media and the integration of artificial intelligence, robotics, and holographic technologies within performative and theatrical contexts.
Yvonne Schäfer lives and works in Salzburg and Munich.
