Željko Zaplatić

Željko Zaplatić was born in Varaždin, Croatia, in 1988. In Ludbreg, he completed his elementary music education with piano as his main subject and was a member of a tamburitza ensemble. He attended the Music High School in Varaždin, where he studied classical singing with Prof. Darija Hreljanović. He completed his vocal studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz with Prof. Ulf Bästlein, graduating with distinction.
During his studies, he performed, among other roles and projects, in J. S. Bach’s “St. John Passion”, as Prospero in G. Donizetti’s “Viva la mamma” and as Ramiro in M. Ravel’s “L’heure Espagnole”. In 2012, he performed at the opening of the Musical Evenings of St. Donat in Zadar. In 2013, he won second prize at the international “Lav Mirski” competition in Osijek.
From 2014, he was a member of the Arnold Schoenberg Choir in Vienna. At Theater an der Wien, he worked with renowned soloists such as Plácido Domingo, Diana Damrau and Edita Gruberova, as well as conductors including Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Cornelius Meister, Jean-Christophe Spinosi and Marc Minkowski.
As a member of the Philharmonia Choir Vienna, the Salzburg Bach Choir and the Chorus Association of the Vienna State Opera, he has performed in numerous opera productions and concerts at the Salzburg Festival.
Since 2017, Željko Zaplatić has been a member of the opera chorus of the Salzburg Landestheater.
