Opera 2026/2027
Music has the power to reconcile. Reconciliation requires courage, understanding and often a sense of humour. Behind its scintillating music and zany ensembles with their masterful comedy, Rossini’s “L‘italiana in Algeri” discusses a topic that is remarkably relevant to our lives today: A smart woman asserts herself in a world of male fantasies of power. In the end, reconciliation comes in the form of a triumph of intelligence over arbitrariness.
With this in mind, we invite you to view reconciliation as an active form of art – as the readiness to listen and to find potential partners in others. Music Director Leslie Suganandarajah, Principal Stage Director Alexandra Liedtke and I are looking forward to the new season.
Yours,
Katrin König, Director of the Opera Division
