Don Giovanni
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Dramma giocoso in two acts / Libretto by Lorenzo da Ponte / In Italian with German and English Surtitles
Synopsis
It starts with a murder. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart opens his opera with a bang, thus creating an ingenious impetus to the story of an exceptional and erotic figure: Don Giovanni. He seduces, he collects, he takes possession... no woman can escape Don Giovanni, whose sole aim is to satisfy his desire of the moment. This man lives only in the Here and Now. Should he wish to seduce a woman, any method will do. The well-known Leporello glossary tells of the conquests of the master; it is long and bears witness to an obsessive compulsion. The course of the plot thus reveals a fearless libertine intent on adding further names to his list. He scorns all dangers and ruthlessly takes what he wants with no thought or fear. It is precisely this fascination for a completely free Eros figure which makes »Don Giovanni» so attractive even to the present day.
Grappling with the works of one of the most famous sons of the city is a perennial task of the Salzburg Landestheater: every season Mozart accounts for a significant part of the program. The 2015/2016 program includes a new edition of »Don Giovanni« (the Jacopo Spirei production of 2011), which impresses not only by its courageous and unusual interpretation, but also through a totally convincing concept. »Don Giovanni« won the Award for the 2010/2011 season for outstanding musical and theatrical production.

Reviews
[…] Ein beachtlicher, erlebnisreicher Abend […].«
