Monty Python's Spamalot

Eric Idle, John Du Prez

Musical / A cooperation with Musik & Theater Saar / In German

Premiere: 09/18/2016

Synopsis

Weird and screamingly funny: The more than extraordinary Musical Comedy »Monty Python’s Spamalot« arrives with its black humour on the stage of the Salzburg Landestheater. Following its first performance on Broadway in 2005, the show won three Tony Awards, including for Best Musical of the 2004/2005 season, and continued round the world with its stunning music.

»Spamalot« with its cheeky wit parodies the legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table in search of the Holy Grail. Supported by the Lady of the Lake, the tiny army of knights experience the weirdest adventures. They encounter the Dark Knight and the Killer Bunny. The Castle of Camelot looks like a night club out of a man’s dream come true and Sir Lancelot turns out to be a passionate Copacabana dancer. It goes without saying that there’s also a love story where the musical artistry is taken to its craziest extreme.

The comic British team Monty Python, with their inimitable, bizarre and off-beat black humour, became world famous through the TV series »Monty Python’s Flying Circus« and their films »The Life of Brian« and »The Meaning of Life«. Spamalot incorporated themes from their own film »Monty Python and the Holy Grail« with songs such as »Always look on the bright side of Life« from Monty Python.

Pia Douwes and Uwe Kröger, already a dream duo for many years of the musical stage, appear for the first time together on the stage of the Salzburg Landestheater. Andreas Gergen creates this summit meeting in the Court of Spamalot together with a Success Team, which has already successfully organised momentous happenings such as »La Cage aux Folles«, »Im Weißen Rössl« and »The Sound of Music«.

Duration: approx. 2 hours 30 mins / incl. intermission

Reviews
