Peter Breuer's Flying Circus

Ballet by Peter Breuer

Premiere: 05/18/2014

Synopsis

One comes upon the term »flying circus« in many contexts. lt is used equally in ski jumping as at a model airplane show or in an acrobatic performance. Not difficult to understand: In all cases, people attempt to overcome the force of gravity with their own bodies or in a specially constructed flying obiect. But there is also the legendary British comedy troupe with their BBC comedy show »Monty Python's Flying Circus«. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, they satirized public figures in numerous parodies and persiflages, as well as typical characters of a society, for instance, the stressed manager or the frustrared housewife. Their dedication to the material was just as legendary as the cheekiness with which they spared no taboo in order to dismantle the object of their sketches.
But what does all of this have to do with the new dance evening in Rainberg? A lot! Naturally, that is the overcommq of gravity, which, as Fred Astaire said so beautifully with his bon mot »Dance is a telegram to the Earth, asking her to defy gravity«, is a basic longing when dancing. But that alone would be too little. By transforming the typically British, thus subtle and above all black humor in his choreography into dance, Peter Breuer would particularly like to make the Fantasy of the audience fly. Fly together with him!

Duration: approx. 1 hour 50 mins / one intermission

Reviews

»It’s very british and very amusing. […]
