SOUL THREADS: The Salzburg Ballet meets the famous ballet dancer Friedemann Vogel
A production of the Kleist Forum Frankfurt (Oder)
Concept & choreography: Thomas Lempertz, Friedemann Vogel · Composition & live music: Alisa Scetinina
Synopsis
Together with Friedemann Vogel, the internationally celebrated star soloist of the Stuttgart Ballet and one of the most prominent public figures in contemporary dance, the Salzburg State Theatre presents an extraordinary double bill: Under the title “The Salzburg Ballet meets Friedemann Vogel”, two choreographic works explore human existence in the interplay of body, mind and time.
For “Soul Threads”, Friedemann Vogel and Thomas Lempertz found inspiration in Heinrich von Kleist’s essay “On the Marionette Theatre”. The performance explores issues of grace, control and freedom, making the body itself the medium of philosophical reflection. Between weightlessness and grounding, technical precision and emotional openness, an intense dialogue about the true nature of dance unfolds.
Maurice Ravel’s “Boléro”, choreographed by Yonggeol Kim and performed by the Salzburg Ballet, makes up the second part of the evening. The iconic music becomes a symbol of human life: Repetitions, time and the conscious and unconscious mind provide the structure for a ritualistic performance with a soloist at the centre, serving as a mediator, and the ensemble following the steady rhythm of time – while simultaneously resisting it.
Two works, two perspectives – united in their exploration of human movement and the expressive power of dance.
