Animal Farm
George Orwell
Based on the eponymous novel · adapted by Janna Ramos-Violante
Synopsis
“Animal Farm” is a powerful parable about society and is listed by TIME Magazine as one of the 100 best English novels.
Green meadows, peacefully grazing cows, birdsong and fresh country air – the perfect farm. At least that’s what it looks like in commercials. In reality, life on the so-called Manor Farm is very different from that. One night, the old boar known as Old Major calls the animals together and delivers a fiery speech: Why should animals work for humans who are taking everything from them? His vision is simple – a farm without humans, free and fair for all. And so, the pigs turn his ideas into a new doctrine: Animalism. Suddenly, the revolution has begun. For a while, the new law seems clear enough: All animals are equal. But slowly the rules change and privileges arise.
With “Animal Farm”, George Orwell created a sharp and haunting fable about revolution and the fragile nature of freedom.
Director Janna Ramos-Violante brings the story to the stage, discussing issues that are now more relevant than ever, such as “Who gets to decide?” and “Who can make their voices heard?”
