Ballet Meets Club Sounds

Synopsis

With “BODyBEAT”, the ballet company presents an evening in two parts that explores the boundaries between ballet and club culture. Under the slogan “Ballet meets Club Sounds”, the performance space is transformed into a nocturnal field of sound and movement, where electronic music enters into an intense union with neoclassical and contemporary dance.

In two world premieres by the internationally renowned artists Anne Jung and Kristina Paulin, choreographic precision and physical virtuosity encounter pulsating club sounds. Techno, house, goa, hip-hop and jungle remixes create a hypnotic atmosphere in which rhythm becomes the central driving force of movement. The individual tracks blend into a flowing entity, as in a DJ set, with the same suggestive power that is typical of club nights. Sound becomes a resonance space, and the body reacts, driven by the steady beat of the music.

The Aigen studio stage offers a deliberately intimate setting, creating a special proximity between the audience and the dancers and enabling a palpable experience of the flow of energy between music, bodies and audience.

“BODyBEAT” invites visitors to view ballet from an unconventional perspective: urban, physical and contemporary. A ballet night of choreographic experiments in a club atmosphere – dense, intense and very much anchored in the present.

Anne Jung, a former dancer with the Nederlands Dans Theater, is known for her musically precise and highly expressive dance numbers. Her career as a choreographer began in 2016 with dancers of the Nederlands Dans Theater at the young choreographers’ programme “Switch”. This was followed by further world premieres in Frankfurt, for the Louisville Ballet in Kentucky, in Graz, for the ballet of the Poznań Opera, for the Augsburg Ballet and in Basel.

Kristina Paulin has danced with John Neumeier’s Hamburg Ballet and has been a choreographer and vice-director of the ballet division at the Karlsruhe State Ballet since 2024/2025. The 2016 ballet night “Young Choreographers” in Hamburg marked the beginning of her career as a choreographer, and her services are now much in demand. She specialises in narrative works that combine classical technique with modern forms of expression. She also contributed to the world premiere of “3x Chopin” at the Salzburg State Theatre.
