Grand New Year’s Eve Concert

A musical sleigh ride

Synopsis

Ring in the new year with sleighbells! Let us take you on a fantasy sleigh ride through a snowy, wintery forest. We set out as the first snowflakes fall, in the peaceful atmosphere of a sunny winter morning, and ride past snow-covered landscapes, frozen creeks and lakes until we discover the first signs of spring towards the end of our journey.

What would a “musical sleigh ride” be without Leopold Mozart’s famous composition of the same name? As usual, our New Year’s Eve concert blends familiar melodies with the works of composers that have yet to be discovered. This year, we will enjoy music by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Leroy Anderson and Frederick Delius as well as the Czech composer Vítězslava Kaprálová.

Of course, compositions by the Strauss family and their contemporaries will also play a vital part, including the popular “Skaters’ Waltz” by Émile Waldteufel. The fast-paced “Skating Polka” by Josef Strauss and his “Winter Fairy Tale”, which is worth rediscovering, set the mood for the New Year’s Eve celebration, as does the “Snowdrops Waltz” by the composer’s famous brother Johann, before we conclude the evening with the “Voices of Spring”.
