Grand New Year’s Eve Concert

December 31, 2025 / Großes Festspielhaus

Synopsis

As the Johann Strauss Year draws to a close, we board the Strauss Pleasure Train and travel around the world with the Waltz King. On our spirited journey, which will take us as far as Boston and St. Petersburg, we will hear not only dance music by the Strauss family but also works by five female composers who shaped the musical life of their time. We will also experience the Austrian premiere of Fireworks by Camille Pépin, which was first performed only this September at the Last Night of the Proms.

Familiar pieces such as "Tales from the Vienna Woods (Geschichten aus dem Wienerwald)" and the "Tritsch-Tratsch Polka" will be complemented by music from composers like Augusta Holmès, Amy Beach, and Florence Price. Joining us on this musical voyage, in keeping with tradition, will be the ballet ensemble as well as the Salzburg Festival and Theater Children’s Choir, who will perform, among other pieces, Ethel Smyth’s "March of the Women" and the "Swallows from Austria (Dorfschwalben)".
