Grand New Year’s Eve Concert
Synopsis
The programme of our New Year’s Eve concert at the Great Festival Hall takes the audience from the Danube and the Vlatava all the way to Scotland and on to the lagoons of Venice. The Grand New Year’s Eve Concert of the Salzburg State Theatre is an annual highlight in the city’s concert calendar. Leslie Suganandarajah, the Musical Director of the Salzburg State Theatre, conducts the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg to ring in the new year with great momentum.
The concert programme takes us on a tour of European waterways: from the Seine in Jacques Offenbach’s “La Vie Parisienne” to the famous symphonic poem about the Vlatava in Bedřich Smetana’s “Má vlast” and from Felix Mendelssohn’s windswept “Hebrides” to the “Nordseebilder” by Johann Strauss. Anne-Fleur Werner and Olivia Cosio complete the symphonic programme with famous arias by Antonín Dvořák and Jacques Offenbach.
The concert runs the gamut from buoyant operetta tunes to mystic and romantic melodies. Of course, the famous waltzes and polkas of the Strauss dynasty that accompany every New Year’s Eve celebration will not be missing, either.
