The Freedom of Laughter

New Comedy Contest

Too funny for the theatre?

Wettbewerb: 14.03.2019 / Landestheater

Synopsis

Michael Niavarani presents the New Comedy Contest „The Freedom of Laughter“ at the Salzburg State Theatre

In 2017 the Salzburg State Theatre asked whether it was true that only the British and the French knew how to write good comedies and organised a highly successful contest for comedic texts in German. The drama ensemble presented selected contributions in a dramatic reading, a renowned judging panel commented on the texts – and the audience chose Theodora Bauer’s “papier.waren.pospischil” as the winner.

Starting a new round of the contest, we once again call on writers from the world of comedy, cabaret, TV and theatre to submit humorous texts, first scenes, excerpts of plays or full dramatic texts. The contest will be curated by comedy expert Thorsten Sievert, Michael Niavarani will host the evening and his theatre publishing company Schultz & Schirm will provide the prizes in cooperation with the Salzburg State Theatre.

Texts can be submitted to Lachen@salzburger-landestheater.at until 15 December 2018.
