The Freedom of Laughter

“New comedy” festival

A laughing contest – too funny for theatre

Date: 20/09/2017

Synopsis

All the good comedies are British or French? We intend to show that there’s also much humour in Austria, Germany and Switzerland. The Salzburg State Theatre organises a contest and invites comedy, cabaret, TV and theatre writers to submit comedic texts, drafted scenes, extracts of plays or full dramatic texts. The aim is to find and support a new generation of comedic writers. The best 10 submissions will be selected and presented in extracts on an evening of (dramatic) readings. A judging panel of prominent representatives of the world of theatre, TV, comedy and cabaret will give live ratings for the texts, but the audience will decide. The winning author will receive a contract for a work with a theatre publisher and will get the chance to hold a full dramatic reading at the Salzburg State Theatre. TV producer, director and comedy expert Thorsten Sievert will curate the event, selecting the submissions for the contest and hosting the evening.
