The Little Magic Flute

In German

Version by Marco Dott based on the singspiel by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Emanuel Schikaneder

Premiere: April 25, 2026 / Salzburg State Theatre

Synopsis

Anna only comes to the theatre to learn how to play the flute – or so she thinks. Suddenly, she finds herself right in the middle of the action, stepping onto the stage and into the world of Mozart’s “The Magic Flute”. There she meets Prince Tamino, who is fleeing from a fearsome dragon. With the magical power of her flute, Anna manages to shrink the creature, and suddenly there is nothing left to fear.

Impressed by her victory, the Queen of the Night asks Anna to help Tamino rescue her daughter Pamina. Together with the bird-catcher Papageno and a surprisingly affectionate dragon, the quartet sets off on an adventurous journey full of challenges. Along the way, Anna realises that things are not always what they seem – and discovers the power of friendship, the mysteries of love, and the magic of opera.

In a new production by Marco Dott, “The Little Magic Flute” becomes an exciting and humorous adventure for young audiences. This contemporary interpretation is enhanced by the stage and costume design of Matthias Kronfuss, who brings the story to life in a modern and imaginative visual world.
