Faust
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Synopsis
“The production by Artistic Director Carl Philip von Maldeghem presents the play in a modern and visually impressive version and is convincing in all its recastings, which add new colour to the production from 2009.” Reichenhaller Tagblatt
Goethe (1749–1832) first began working on “Faust” in 1773 and kept preoccupying himself with it for the rest of his life. Mephistopheles promises to appease Faust’s insatiable hunger for great deeds and great knowledge. Faust takes the bet and wagers his soul. Together they travel the small and the big world and encounter life with all its lures and temptations. Faust is the epitome of restlessness, always striving for knowledge and replacing word with deed. In doing so, he betrays and destroys everything he once treasured: science, his lover, his own child, nature, his future. Is he himself the power that would / always work the evil and always wishes good?

Reviews
