Johann Wolfgang v. Goethe

Wiederaufnahme 8. Februar 2023 / Landestheater

Faust is the epitome of restlessness – always searching for enlightenment and always ready to act where others merely speak. Mephistopheles promises to appease Faust’s insatiable hunger for great deeds and great knowledge. Faust takes the bet and wagers his soul. He thus betrays and destroys everything he once treasured: science, his lover, his own child. Is Faust himself the “power that would / always work the evil and always wishes good”?

“The production by Artistic Director Carl Philip von Maldeghem presents the play in a modern and visually impressive version and is convincing in all its recastings, which add new colour to the production from 2009. […] Without a doubt, ‘Faust’ at the Salzburg State Theatre is an inspiring, thrilling and touching theatre experience that gives new shine to an old classic.”  Reichenhaller Tagblatt
