Synopsis

Nervous glances are exchanged, followed by brief smiles; sweaty fingers try to find their way, and there are a thousand questions in one’s head. Where should I put my hand? Can I say that I want to turn off the light? Do I really want to be doing that? And what if there is something wrong with my body? Too big, too small, too much, too little? The mythical “first time” is fucking, fucking exciting, confusing, sometimes uncomfortable, often scary – and maybe (hopefully) wonderful. Ten loosely connected perspectives tell of shame and courage, of insecurity and curiosity, of closeness, limits and autonomy. These stories show that sexuality is a manifold experience full of expectations, fears and hopes.

The collection of short stories “Fucking fucking schön” (“Fucking Fucking Wonderful”) by acclaimed author Eva Rottmann won the 2025 Swiss Children’s and Youth Books Award and is remarkable for its literary quality and its clear position on body issues, matters of desire and personal limits.

Anna Lukasser-Weitlaner stages the many voices of the novel in her own adaptation with the imaginative and detailed imagery that is typical of her works. Stage and costume designer Nina Wronka creates a space that visualises closeness, vulnerability and courage.
