Hamlet (She/Her)

William Shakespeare / International Theatre

In englischer Sprache

Premiere 24. March 2023 / Studio 3 im Probenzentrum Aigen

Synopsis

We are in Denmark, and Hamlet’s father, the King, has passed away. “To be or not to be; that is the question.” Hamlet is challenged by the ghost of his father to take revenge on his mother who has married the late King’s brother. But who is Prince Hamlet?

In our exciting new production, traditional perceptions of gender and identity are expanded as one actress develops the entire story at Elsinore castle. This adaptation is an excellent way to experience “Hamlet” and possibly Shakespeare for the first time and as well as an interesting interpretation for those more familiar with his work.

One of Shakespeare’s best known plays in a new shape.

The tour de force is played by South African actress Janna Ramos-Violante, who is also the driving force behind this new initiative, and directed by Carl Philip von Maldeghem. The actress, whose dream is to build theatre relationships across continents, has won several awards and gained much recognition for her work in the arts. In Salzburg, she has appeared in the productions of “Cyrano de Bergerac” and “Familienabend” at the Salzburg State Theatre.

Reviews

Der Ansatz der Inszenierung, Shakespeares meistgespieltes Werk mit frischem Anstrich sowie einer Prise britischem Humor für das heutige Publikum zu bringen, geht auf. […] Gelungener Theaterabend – und viel Applaus.
