Synopsis
Who doesn’t know the island with two mountains? One day a young boy landed there—in a wrongly addressed package! The inhabitants took Jim Button in, but as soon as he grew up, Morrowland became too small and King Alfonse The Quarter-to-Twelth was concerned. Plus Emma The Train had to go. So how was Luke supposed to become a train driver with no train? The only thing to do was to find a new home with help from his best friend. During their adventurous journey far away in Mandala they heard that Princess Li-Si had been abducted and they straight away set off with a hazardous plan to rescue her.
Transparent trees, striped mountains, a colossal giant and dragons barred their way. Would the rescue succeed? And would the two friends find a home for themselves? In the end, Jim solves more than just the puzzle of his origins. Michael Ende’s classic children’s book, through a mixture of surprise and humour, creates enthusiasm on the stage.
Michael Ende (1929-1995) became famous on account of his first book »Jim Knopf and Lukas the Traindriver«. The poetic worlds in his well-known Momo novels (1973) and »The Never-ending Story« (1979) will never be forgotten.
Volkmar Kamm is already well known to the mature public as Director of many successful productions in the Landestheater, such as »The King’s Speech« and »The Tobacconist«. His »Homo Faber« of the 2016/2017 season will be staged for the 8th time. This is the first time he is dedicating a production of the story of Jim Knopf to the younger theatre-goers of the Landestheater.

Reviews
