Anniversary Gala – 400 Years of Theatre next to the Mirabell Gardens

2025 marks an important anniversary for the Salzburg State Theatre. In 1625, the so-called Ballhaus, the first theatre building in the city of Salzburg, was erected in what is now the location of the Salzburg State Theatre. Here, dances were held and ball games were played for exercise – it could be described as an early specimen of a multipurpose hall. In addition to a world premiere by John Düffel and William Shakespeare, another world premiere will be held in the spring of 2026. Even before that, we will be celebrating the world of theatre and the concept of playing (in all its facets) with an anniversary gala in autumn. All genres and every artistic and technical department of the Salzburg State Theatre will contribute to a grand celebration of theatre: 400 Years of Theatre next to the Mirabell Gardens.
