Lili, the Danish Girl
Reginaldo Oliveira
Synopsis
It begins as a game in artistic circles: Einar Wegener models for a female portrait for his wife. They then introduce the model, whom they call Lili, into their circle of friends. But the longer Einar leads a double life, the more he feels that Lili embodies his true nature.
One person's search for a way to finally feel at home in their own body inspired choreographer Reginaldo Oliveira to this creation. Using the notes of the historical Lili Elbe, he explored what it was like to feel trapped in the wrong body and how liberation could be achieved.
“Ballet director Reginaldo Oliveira deals with current gender issues. A courageous undertaking. […] The tension of the 80-minute premiere evening is released in frenetic cheers.” - Salzburger Nachrichten
