Synopsis
“I am not raising my voice. It is the voice of those who have no voice.” This is how Malala Yousafzai explained her activism for girls’ rights in her home country. Aged 17, she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014. Even today, girls are faced with violence, exploitation, marginalisation and discrimination in many countries – also in Europe.
The youngest person ever to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize is an exceptionally brave young woman. When she was only eleven years old, she began advocating every girl’s right to attend school in interviews, public speeches and her blog. She survived an attack by the Taliban and afterwards continued to fight for children’s rights. Malala’s story, from her everyday life to being persecuted by the Taliban, is both moving and disturbing. It shows how a small, brave voice can make itself heard around the globe.
Flo Staffelmayr tells Malala Yousafzai’s real story to young audiences in a smart and insightful manner – openly reproaching Islamist fundamentalism and taking a stand for the right to education.
