Opera in Residenz: Night at the Museum

In cooperation with the DomQuartier Salzburg

Premiere: 02/21/2018

From the court theatre to the Knights’ Hall or the Carabinieri Hall, the Salzburg Residenz offered many venues for musical encounters of the highest quality in the 17th and 18th centuries. A variety of works by composers such as Antonio Caldara, Claudio Monteverdi, Heinrich Biber or Michael Haydn were performed there, as is documented in many contemporary travel reports.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart also appeared regularly at the Residenz as a court musician. His works “Die Schuldigkeit des ersten Gebots”, “Il re pastore”, “La finta semplice” and “Il sogno di Scipione”, for instance, premiered in the Knights’ Hall, one of the glamorous state rooms of the Residenz.

With “Opera at the Residenz”, the Salzburg State Theatre continues its exploration of historical places in Salzburg and takes the audience on a musical expedition into the era of prince-archbishops and court musicians. The historical setting and its art collection are really brought to life in this event.
