Picnic in the Park with “The Sound of Music”

A musical and theatrical walk through the gardens of Schloss Leopoldskron

Synopsis

Would you like to enjoy a refreshment in the noble setting of the palace gardens in the evening sun, accompanied by the unforgettable songs from “The Sound of Music”? The 60th anniversary of the movie “The Sound of Music” in the summer of 2025 will be marked by a unique opportunity to do just that. The Salzburg State Theatre and Leopoldskron Palace invite curious audiences and fans of “The Sound of Music” from Salzburg and all over the world to enjoy an extraordinary theatre event in the breathtaking natural setting of the palace gardens.

This summer stroll with musical accompaniment will take audiences on a tour of the film’s original locations around Leopoldskron Palace. Experience the beloved songs from the musical like you have never heard them before, revelling in the location’s spectacular view of the lake and the mountains! In addition to staged scenes and musical numbers, the picnic of course includes refreshments that match the atmosphere of the movie. A narrator will lead audiences from one stop to the next, revealing little secrets and anecdotes about the shooting of the film and providing a glimpse behind the scenes of the iconic movie, which won several Academy Awards and has shaped Austria’s image in the world.

In case of rain, the musical picnic will take place indoors. The Fellows Hall at Leopoldskron Palace offers a stylish alternative venue for rainy days.
