Symposium: The Theatre of the Future
The Beginning and End of the Contemporary Canon?!
Synopsis
Where Is Theatre Headed in the 2020s? What does it take to bring democratic and gender-equitable narratives to the stage—navigating the tension between individuality and community? And what role does the canon play in this process?
For future programming to thrive, diverse narratives and creators will need to take center stage, creating fertile ground for the development of new works. The dramatic material of the canon may serve as a valuable resource, offering insights that resonate today—or it may be seen as a burden, one that can be left behind without regret.
Nuran David Calis—renowned theatre director and author working in both documentary and narrative forms—has curated the symposium programme. Together with artistic director Carl Philip von Maldeghem and in collaboration with the editorial team of Die Deutsche Bühne, he opens a space for thought and dialogue.
The Salzburg Landestheater invites experts, journalists, theatre directors, and dramaturges to engage in discussion, raise questions, and explore answers collectively.
