A candle for Sascha Oskar Weis
Yesterday morning I received the sad news from Clara Gutsche, the woman who was to marry Sascha Oskar Weis this year:
"Dear Friederike, the cremation will take place today at 11 a.m. Since no one is allowed to attend, I will light a candle for myself and think of him. I thought maybe, if you have the time and wish, you might want to do the same."
Of course, I wanted to—and the warmly glowing yellow candle, which had already been lit many times over the past two weeks for Sascha, was given a special place. I cautiously asked Clara if I could invite other colleagues, and eventually the message reached many members of the Salzburg State Theatre as well as numerous companions from recent years. The response was overwhelming. I had the impression that many people were deeply grateful to have this shared moment of mourning. I forwarded the many photos of your candles to Clara so that she wouldn’t feel alone during these difficult days.
